I came across this photo of an abandon 58 Buick that was uncovered after being encased behind a brick wall in 1971. The story is interesting enough, but I'm more interested in the bumper. The bumper guards aka dagmars, are not original. They work well with the airborne concept of the B-58. The windshield also appears to have been replaced with a 2 piece at some point. I'm not a fan of that addition. In my opinion only, the bumper looks better than the original So HAMB'ers, who knows where these dagmars came from?
Was this the New Mexico plate car, that supposedly was buried under a house as a joke or something? Car had an engine issue, and the dude didn't have the cash to pay the dealer........same car, or no ? Where did the pictures come from ? I recall the story, but never saw any details unfortunately. Kinda' kills the thrill in my opinion......damn newspaper people don't exactly nail it sometimes.....do they ?
That's the story. The newspaper did a lousy job providing info. It looks pretty close. The 53 dagmars were attached at the side of the grille insert and had marker lights.
Looks like '51 Ford to me. The "bullets" anyway; the housings look like they may be something else or maybe extended.
I wouldn't call them "Dagmars"...they're not anywhere close to the Dagmars on my '55 Caddy (BTW, the "largest" ever put on a Caddy). I'd think '51 Fords would be too large to use as a bumper guard and the same with a '50 Stude center bullet...those on the Buick appear smallish. Now I'm curious why you want them...did you buy a '58 Buick to use them on...??? R-
I agree. The closest would be the 50 Buick. I have a 58 that I have been working on for some time now. I came across those photos by accident and decided that I liked the look. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Oops. I deleted my post by mistake! I was going to add... 1957 Packard bumper... '50 Buick housings.... ...and '51 Ford bullets?
Good call on the bumper. The one in the pic was so mangled that I didn't really notice that it wasn't stock either. I wonder if I can just swap the bullets and housings with the stock bumper guards? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
