Projects THE FRYSLER MY BUILD 29 5W FROM PU pic heavy

Finally the day has come for my build thread,and to give something back to the hamb.
thanks to everyone who has posted their hard work and wisdom on this site in the last ten years.
this is my first scratch built rod and i have been collecting parts for about five years. here we go!

the plan:
my plan is to build a 5w coupe from a pickup.
i got a 1929 chrysler pickup minus the doors, 1930 ford roadster quarters,
i dont have the original chassis but i have got something planned of my own
i have a rebuilt 350 sbc single rail 4 speed box and a halibrand quickchage rear end.
i plan on quarter eliptical front suspension,39 ford axle with original spindals and radius rods.
35 ford transverse leaf in the rear onto the quickchange.

the body is quite complex. the quarters are fucked and thats where ill start or should i say started
three weeks ago,photos to follow. ive cut the pickup in the rear just below the belt line and after
mocking the whole lot up with the ford quarters it looked like it will all work really well
i figure its a blend between ford and chrysler thus the name the frysler any how here some pics
lets face it youre ony reading this so you can see them.
the photo of the good quarter is a mates so i had something to mearsure from

Cool, I'll be watching this one. If you can get the two bodies to mate up nicely, should be really unique, and a great use of some very rough looking parts. Always cool to see guys outside the US interested in hot rods, I send a lot of old parts to Australia.

then a ford coupe and im 6'3 so all room i can get will help as it will be chanelled and chopped

all the patches are tacked in and i think its going to be a late night welding after the kids and the wife go to bed
while their asleep we can build hotrods

Lookin good. At first i thought why isn't this dude just using a Model A cowl to match the quarters.. then realized you're in Tassie haha. I took the easy road with mine.. started with an A cowl and doors and bought Brookville steel quarters and all the rear sheet metal. Made it easy.. i'm too lazy to do rust repairs for the most part haha.

 

I think this is going to work out nicely, looking forward to seeing more progress pics.

 

man this has been alot of work i cant blame you for taking the easy road
as for model a cowl i woudnt fit in a chopped an channeled a

ill try and update weekly. i at least do one to two hours a day on it
figure i have to. i want this badly!

ok so i sneaked into the shed when i should have been doing other stuff
and cut 130mm or approx 5" out of the back window section to narrow it
then i took 50mm or 2" off the bottom of the cowl.
my next move will be reversing the firewall and cowl patch panels.

 

so the firewall is out, so many bloody spot welds
reversing it i going to work nicely, ive cut out the indented pieces for the radiator support rods to turn
them around

 

The reversed firewall is a neat idea, gives more clearance without looking too fabricated. Narrowed body proportions look good too. Keep at it!

 

here's the firewall welded up and in reverse i wont weld that in just yet

those tyre's are 16 x 7.5

 

fronts will be 16 x 6.00

 

the cowl rust repairs are done


im struggling with the centre width where the doors
meet the quarters,so im cutting more out of the roof section 2" but i dont want to narrow the rear window
any more than it already is so ill cut that out first.when i chop the roof 4" ill only take 2" out of the window.

so it cut the 2" out of the centre to narrow the rear but i think ill have to go another 2" that be a total of 9"
out of the pickup roof.

Well I have been a busy boy
I've joined the cowl to rear section
Now and weld in some sub floor
Some thick walled inch square on the
Bottom to create bottom body line
Worked out nicely just had to slice it
Every two inches.
Chop the top 4" and made the side window I nearly have a coupe now.
Please let me know what you think

So just got a few hours in on the coupe.
I really wanted the drivers side tacked in place before I went to Chopped
Tomorrow night on the plane can't wait
