One of the featured marques was the Ruxton....they appear to be chopped and channeled, with Watson-like panel painting...what's not to like?

Tom, what's the story on the dual-cowl Model A phaeton? Never ever saw one of those before.Perhaps one of the German custom buiders?

 

It was a custom coachbuilt car (by LeBaron) for Edsel Ford.

This is how they drove it.....without the tonneau and bubble......not exactly practical either, but........

 

I just read up on the Jag. The streamlining helped it go 172.412 mph in 1953, the record for a production car at that time! The bubble was bolted on after the driver was in!

 

The Ruxton is a knockout, but the saggy door handles stick out like a turd in a bowl of milk

 

Without its hubcaps or skirts, either. I guess they didn't want anything to fall off.

Ruxton paint designs are proof Woodstock was NOT the first place massive amounts of drugs were consumed.........Can't you just imagine Jimmy Hendrix pulling up in one to a concert.........

 

I recall the blue Ruxton in a thread here on the Hamb several months ago. It was posted by a Hamber about some projects in his shop. Anyone remember who it was?

 

Pretty sure that green and black Bugatti is the exKen Purdy Type 50 that lived two miles down the road from me at one time. To this day when I drive past his house I look down the drive remembering the cars he had. Bob

 

While the Greybeards were on our trip out to LARS, two guys came out 400 miles to Hollbrook, Az and drove back to Ca with us....one of them was the retired CEO of Operations for Merle Norman Cosmetics...so we got a behind the scenes tour you just couldn't believe...pictures don't do it justice.....it is owned by Jack Nethercutt....(Nethercutt Museum)......he had a Ruxton on display in his private collection....the part that's not open to the public.......that was the first one I had ever seen or heard of....I thought it was something that some Hippie had painted back in the 70's like John Lennons Rolls.....had no idea that was the way they came........car builders back then were craftsmen beyond belief...especially when you consider the time and equipment they had........to say I was impressed would be an understatement

We went through the Nethercutt Collection too, it is worth mentioning that admission is FREE. Be sure to call ahead to get on the Grand Salon tour, the music collection is really special. Bob
