So I have some old helmets and Ive been asked to donate some stuff to a local car and bike show charity auction in honor of a good friend of mine that was killed on duty in 2012 (sheriff deputy shot in the neck)... any way... I decided Im going to airbrush some helmets and see how much money I can help them raise to help send some kids to college...

I have 2 60s metal flake helmets and a new DOT approved half helmet...

Im not sure on what would get attention and Im just drawing a blank...

    Inspiration and opinions needed please..

To me it would be a shame to cover any vintage Captain America helmet with paint.

There are a shitload of bikers here in NC and there may be an interest in it as is.

I've one from the 60's (with a few more stars) that I displayed in my garage for years and just recently relined it with a Biltwell liner (the original liner was crumbling and deteriorating, probably like the one you have) and use it now.

I swear I can faintly hear Steppenwolf over the wind when I wear it, too.

  6. I would leave it as is,,it's vintage. HRP

Sorry... Thats not one of the helmets im painting, that one sits in my boys room, its just the same style, one is red, and one is blue, both pretty scratched up...
I did an eye ball on top of a skull cap a few years ago as an airbrushing demo and had to chase people off with sticks over it, but I dont have one of those helmets and im not sure how an eyeball would look on one of those...

All helmets age. Both the foam and the fiberglass deteriorates over time. Even if you cannot see the degradation, it is there.

By definition, no vintage helmet is safe, both from the aforementioned reasons, and that they by no means meet modern safety standards.

They should be considered works of art, and nothing else. It is a false sense of security, and not worth the risk.
