Every year on the Wednesday before the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular, KKOA member and 2014 KKOA Hall Of Fame Nominee Rocky Burris throws a little get together at his home shop. This year had the added bonus of honoring the Leadsled Spectacular’s Grand Marshall and Kustom Legend Dave Stuckey. KKOA President Jerry Titus came down from the busy pre-show last minute work in Salina to tell us all some stories of working with Stuckey at Starbird’s Star Kustoms Shop back in the old days. Read the captions on each pic to get more of the story. Thank you Rocky for always inviting us all to the pre-party!

Lots of great rides show up to Rocky’s pre-party each year before the KKOA.

This wild kustom may not suite everyone’s flavor but when Dave Stuckey built this 65 Pontiac in 1967. Larry Wolfe has broght the car back from the East coast and is restoring it. The car now sports a new period correct interior. More to come on this car.

Rocky Sr. has this historic 51 Ford kustom in his shop, he says he’s working on it but we’ll believe him when it drives out of his garage :)

Dave Stuckey is officially the Grand Marshall of the Leadsled Spectacular. We all hope that he can make it after a prior medical engagement.

Most of Thursday was spent gathering up stuff for our booths, KKOA Leadsled Spectacular Set Up Day. After a quick run to a nearby town to pick up an electric fuel pump to get a buddy back on the road we packed our booths for the day and headed out to Bright Built Hot Rods for their Open House. Here are some photos from that event.

Excuse my ignorance. Does the canopy truck have a back glass? Never seen one up close.

It has a removable wall that goes behind the seats, he leaves it out in the warm months and has it in for the winter. He's just got the new fenders on it with the deluxe (I think that's what it is called) trim on them. That thing is driven more than almost any other vehicle that I see.

Nice job, Travis. The Salina KKOA show is always a fun time. I drove the '31 Ford there Saturday. Checked out loads of cool cars, hung out with some friends, and bought a few things at the swap meet. We'e fortunate to have such a great event so close to home.

thanks for the coverage. From another post, I had wondered if it had just become a rat rod show as that was all I seen in the pictures. not finished cars or customs.

Well, the show has changed for sure. But there still are a lot of fantastic rides that show up. The ratty guys have really jumped on this show because it's a big show that they can still get into.

Hopefully we can put together a kustoms only parking area of the park next year and start to take the show back from a participant level from the hoards of rats, restored cars, muscle cars, & street rods that have started to attend the "Leadsled Spectacular."

ONE of the reasons I quit going to the "Leadsled Spectacular"...it's just another rod run now...and I never considered four doors, stone-stock '59 Chevys and Buicks, lowered station wagons, pseudo gassers, ANY rod or T-bucket a KUSTOM...and don't get me started on the "drag races"...!!!

I sincerely hope you can pull off the "Leadsled" parking area and get it back to where it was...but knowing Jerry like I do, you've got an uphill fight...good luck...!!!

There are more customs at this show than any other show in the Midwest. That's why I return year after year. Thanks for the coverage Travis and all that you do.
