Sportland Park in Bakersfield ran a midget program on Friday, July 31, 1942, which is believed to be the final racing event held before the ban. I'd say that's pretty likely since the feature ended at 11:30PM, 30 minutes before the ban took effect. Norm Girtz won the feature ahead of Frank Brewer.

Maybe people using facebook more and maybe the new format has discouraged usage.

Steady and prolonged examination of a topic seems to be a lost world.

I don't like Facebook either Denny. Who says "change is good"? The older I get the less I like it.

  13. So am I. Every time I attempt to get on Facebook it knocks me off the internet.

By the way, I'm OK with this new forum...but...my thinking is...if it ain't broke don't fix it. I'm sure there good reasons why the powers to be redid it....but it's above my pay grade.

Black Vette 59, the Sprint car one is Vintage sprint cars from the beginning to the 80's that I started after Taking Josh's idea here and bringing it over there. I came up with a set of guidelines and keep them really strict and the year cutoff is 1989 and the post's are for sprint cars the sprint style Indy Cars and roadsters and the Dirt Champ/ Silver crown cars....and Roy started the Midget one call midget racing, 70's throught 2000 plus a few more...............Rich

    Hi Rich,
I don't quite understand why you would want to replicate what already exists here.
Is it mainly to have something similar in the new venue i.e. Facebook?
If so, what is the benefit of Facebook over this thread on the HAMB?
    Thanks

With the FaceBook deal theres more access to a wider audience, {Last time I checked We had 9700 Members and over 5000 photos that have been posted to the Groups page}, And they are Friend's, families,of Drivers, car owners and just fans that might Have photos stashed away and with FaceBook, Theres that one person that might post something and another friend or family member might catch that post from someone they know who liked a photo, and It draws them in and join and add some of there photos, When I thought about My deal over 2 years ago I discussed it with Josh, and We talked about it and came up the idea to open it up to the 1989 cutoff date and We kind of leaned it to being more of a Fan style deal, But it also has it drawback's..... This thread is a more on the hard core side where We can ask the technical questions and for advice and is Why I still check this page out daily...................If My deal that I started over 2 years ago has taken away from this thread I'm truly SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.............Rich .......................
P.S., There are also a bunch of other Groups on FaceBook that cater to a specific item, Like Silver Crown cars, Vintage Modifieds/Super Modifieds, Trevis built racecars, Grant King built Racecars along with a pages for a drivers like Opperman, Branson to name a few......................

Stan, I am not as old as you but I am no spring chicken either. I have learned how to work with the new format and once I figured it out it has quite a few benefits. As Rab notes the Facebook deal is a lot more open to the public at large. I kind of like this deal where a lot of us know each other personally--more like a semi exclusive club than FB where there are plenty of clueless bozos just wasting good air

I still check in here almost everyday, I just don't really have anything to update on. Facebook does have a lot of good groups, Not as good as here though!

Here is a pic from Hoosier 100 and Winchester with Dave Hatcher.

My biggest concern is FB promotes the balkanization of motorsports historical study/community and creates an environment of staccato statements of facts with little room for discussion, let alone correction over time.
I think the best use for FB I've seen in regards to auto sports history was spoken by Mark Dill where he stated that a good, solid website such as his 'first super speedway' can be augmented by a FB page (David Greenlees and his superb website - 'theoldmotor' is now augmented by a FB page.)
