The headers are the cheap speedway headers, and their smaller 3 1/2" x 30" megaphones.

 

Now these pictures put this thread up to date. I'm getting the body squared up and mounted for good on the frame. From sitting the way it did for so long, the body was diamond'd and twisted front to rear. It was all cattywampus.

I started by getting the very front and rear body mounts done and then I could worry about the subrails after that. I then had to slice the firewall and spread it to fill the void when the front was spread and channeled. I made the feet bolt to the subrail so I can still pull the firewall out if it ever needed to.















The body at the b pillars was bloated like a beached whale. It needs some structure to keep it together. I used some square tubing to replace the wood that was stock. I will tie into it with some tubing that bends around the back of the body.

 

Looks good so far. Nice and sound body mounting.

 

Awesome thanks, I thought the 3.5" megaphones would look to big. However the look just about right..

I got the b pillars in. Real sturdy, made of metal.

 

I also bent up a small portion of the subrails on both sides, that connects to the wheelwells.





Then I bent up a floor crossmember that strengthens the b pillar area and will serve as a seat mount.

 

I didn't like the wheelwells being just a straight line. It cuts the frame profile off when it sweeps up in the back. I wanted the body to fit the frame not sit on it. They needed to follow the profile of the frame, so I hacked them up.

I got the passenger side pretty much finished, the arch still needs a final grind to dress it up. I needed to cut the driver side to match though. Instead of spending 2 hours going back and forth measuring and marking in little increments up the wheelwell, I made a pattern. I took my favorite heavy paper/weak sister cardboard pattern material, and made a template. It worked pretty slick, and came out great.

A true sign of native genius is when that person makes it looks easy, in a casual and leisurely way. Your approach is deceptive, even though what you will end up with is going to make grown men weep.

 

You have a good eye for design and can execute it with precision. Nice work on the wheel wells.

Thunderbirdesq's old model a roadster has been a real influence on mine.
I asked him about the stanchions on his car and he said they were 3" chopped deluxe's. My friend made this jig for 3" chopped 32 stanchions when I chopped a pair for him, so I threw mine in there and chopped them as well.

I was doing some digging around and found some old pictures of the chassis when it was getting fixed.

 

Great job on those B pillars and the wheel wells. Definitely gotta do the same when the time comes. How did you do the sub rail pieces? Did you use a bead roller or a brake?

 

Its good to see some stuff pulled out of bruces and being built into something!

Jeff, I have been following your threads on your scores at bruces. He always told us he didn't have anymore 32 stuff. Killer finds, and I hope to see them turned into some neat old timey hot rods.
