So the Nash box is basically like an F-1 but with the worm on top? Are there any Nashes left with steering boxes in them?

Yes, pretty much an inverted F1 box...so it makes a direct, bolt in replacement for a 32. And they are getting hard to find...

what years of nash cars had this type of box besides 1937?

  4. Not to sidetrack your thread, but I'm curious. What are the benefits of the Nash box over an F100 box? Both have the worm roller on top. I assume the Nash box is smaller. Any other appreciable benefits?

Major benefit I see is the nicer fully splined sector which fits all the early Ford pitman arms. It's hard to find a pitman for the F-100 with the tapered hole in the end for the draglink too.

Speed canuck: I agree with you, I dont mind having a 50s style fordor!

But still every-buddy and his dog, claims that it's less emberesing to tell strangers you were and male escort/exotic danser, then to tell your mates you drive a fordor.
But non the less, ones in a blue moon, a car like this shows up, and all is upside down.
I really like this car, so I just wants to know about the Bad @@s dude who had the balls to stand up to pier pressure and tell everybody else that he means business, and even take it Drag Racing :O

Yes, and the earlier steering boxes are a little closer ratio. Some say the F100 is a little too light for an early car.

    A little more progress...

Spliced a 40 pickup column tube together. I had a cutoff column, so decided to splice on another column tube. I made the joint at the column drop, so it would be hidden. This also got rid of the original column lock holes, so I could then cut new ones where they needed to be for the 32 column drop...

    Welded together, you'd never know...

Assembled a column drop from parts...

And finally got the steering box in the chassis today...

I need to work on an adjustable draglink (to center the steering box), but atleast the chassis steers and stops now!

Getting closer...one baby step at a time.

I always enjoy your posts. Did you come home with a pile of parts from this years LARS? If so was there a post on them? Bob

Here's the pile...nothing to get too excited about this year. I was too busy selling stuff to be out finding the deals.

SO inspiring, Neal. (all your early Ford posts are) All the 'Fordors are now O.K.' responses make me hope I can find some 'Box Flared' skirts for my '47 Fordor...Just a 'driver'...(got grandkids? I do!)

The solutions you come up with to retro with Gennie stuff is just amazing. (60 years of doing this and I learn tricks from you that make me take notice...Thank the Lord I don't throw sh!t away!)
Working on my '27 steel Hiboy tub, LOVED your 'riveting solutions'! Thanks!

It's Duplicolor "Cast Iron" engine paint. I wanted to try it on something...

I will post details here. Was planning to use some aftermarket ball-type tie-rod ends. I hope I can get the balls and springs set up like Ford intended on the draglink.

Another HAMB member I must have walked by in the Swap Meet and never knew it. First year at LARS was fun, we'll be back in 2015. Was it an off year? I spent $22.00 on parts and left happy. Bob

Got the radiator back, with the lower necks tipped down. That worked well...

Used some 8BA style upper hoses...

Then tackled the firewall. It was pretty good, just had a few extra holes...like 40 extra holes!

Repaired where they cut out around the steering column hole...

And the lower flange over the transmission...

    It's about ready for primer...

That's all I got done this time around...had to get back on steering boxes, as I have quite a few to get out.

    Until next time.

With the dropped axle, bent steering arm, etc, the stock 32 draglink was about 1/2" too long...

I located some NORS ends to make up an adjustable drag link. I got a pair of 28-34 Ford tie rod ends. I could use one at the front, but the rear needed to have the spring behind the ball to work like Ford intended. I found some Kaiser Frazer drag link ends that had the correct spring location, plus they had 11/16" RH threads...

I had to swap out the internals with Ford parts, as the Kaiser used a smaller ball. I cut down a replacement Ford tierod, used a LH threaded Ford tie rod end at the front and the Kaiser end at the rear. Here's the adjustable version next too a stock 32..

    That's it for this round.

Top sleuthing to find those Kaiser Frazer parts, Neal. You manage to make everything look "factory".

I scored a set of the brass tag 982J's from a swap meet table at Pate about 10 years ago. People ask me what they came from, I answer honestly.
