I agree! I've never been a fan of 3 or 5 speed bikes, I changed I've of my 5 speed stingrays I had along time ago to coaster brake, A lot easier to work on too... Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
My favorite was a candy apple red coaster brake Schwinn Stingray. I put a 20 tooth sprocket on the back, and you could ride wheelies forever on it I paid $7.00 for it in the summer of 1974. Like to find one for that price today!

I think so too, although it has been hit. Needs a new driver door/rear panel, if it has a clean title and the axel is not bent I'll get it. Condition is similar to the plymouth except for the area where it was hit. It would be a lot cooler and 50s cars are my favorite... This is my signature
Welcome. That Plymouth is nice. But you'll love that 59 Chevy. There are parts and parts cars still out there.
I know you won't see the significance of this now but in the long run it will make all the difference. I seem to be the only young person around my town that does this very thing, and it teaches you to respect your car. In my opinion, this is what defines a real car guy (especially old cars) from the wanna-bes. I you just write checks and pay for someone else to do the work (or your parents pay for it) you are missing out and will get no respect from me. Everyone at car shows around where I live show off the cars like ohhh look at this car I built, when in fact, they did pretty much none of it themselves. You will learn the terms "sweat equity" and "personal satisfaction" super fast when it comes to paying for your first car (and the resto) as a young kid.
Oh and the 1959 Chevy will always be cooler than the plymouth, worth more, and parts are easier to find I would guess.
glad to see progress being made on the plymouth as for the chevy... damn, '59 is hard to beat as far as style goes. any idea what the running gear is?
Thank you so much for posting that, I have been thinking that a lot and it's refreshing to see someone that I don't know on a personal level agree with me. Believe it or not there is a kid who I know that gets a free restored classic car of his choice. His sister picked a 66 mustang, she didn't want to drive a manual so they changed it out to automatic... True story
As far as the 59 bel-air goes here is the pictures that where sent to me buy the owner. He says it needs a new quarter panel and door, and as far as what's under the hood: 3 speed V8 with overdrive
Also there is another car I have been looking at for almost 4 years now, a 1963 2 door chevy biscayne. it's been sitting in a garage at an abandon house for almost 30 years is what I've been told but local people around my neighborhood. With very high hopes of getting this car, it took me 3 years to find out the lady's number. I've expressed that I will take great care of the car and drive it to high school. She's open to the thought of Selling it but has a lot to deal with currently and doesn't have time to think about selling it. While talking to her at her house I asked about other cars she may have or know about And she shows me her fathers old early Chevelle 0.0 she said it's not for sale but she will consider selling the biscayne... If the bel air does not work out I will show up at her door with a pocket full of money's and see what she says....
You better take a collision-based body man with you when you look at that '59. I did that work for 20 years, and that one is a good hit. Make sure you know what you will be getting in to, because there is some work to be done there. Don
I agree. Looks like the rear wheel on the driver's side is bent up a bit. Might lead to deeper more serious problems. Id keep the fury.
Having just gone throughout the title process in NC, I wouldn't do it again. Huge pita and it took a long time to get my title. I think you should stick with the nice solid car you already have and fix it up like you want it.
I wouldnt, I can see you are anxious to do something and low funds sometimes makes it hard to hold back and do nothing but I wouldnt do that, sorry.
I agree with your passing on the 59. If the Fury isn't what you truly want in the end- put in your time and sweat to get her running right and flip it when the right car comes along. -rick
Here is where i'm currently at with the car: Im waiting on a battery for it. Before i was using a battery out of a old truck my dad had in the yard, truck sold battery went with it... Anyways before that i could kinda turn it over buy hand, with out any starter fluid it wouldn't start but it seemed like it wanted to. Now im just waiting on a battery then ill be back to work, ive been buying and selling at swap meets with my dad to afford the build, but lately the swap and auctions around here have been a bit dry... Stay tuned in the next few weeks for updates!
Also I got these rims off of cougar mike from the Iron lords thanks dude! These are just place holders until I can afford a good set of cragars or supremes. Also this build would not be possible with out the help of the iron lords... This is my signature
My dog hazet and I spent a while test fitting the American racing wheels, sadly they didn't fit.. So we bolted the rims back on and I went to changing out spark plugs. And the most exciting thing to happen this week was getting some cragar ss wheels! This is my signature
