I got my "circle track" hinges made, and the pins installed. Now I need to do some body work. What fun. It never ends!

I think the "circle track" hinges fit the character of the car and the era build style.

  5. Nice solution Jim. Looks right and almost nothing to re-build if you opt for an alternative solution. Really enjoyed the ride. Knock their socks off at the big event!

Hood is done. The color matches just fine, I didn't wash the car, which is really dusty, except for the hood. Got the new rear tires on, still waiting on the new older front wheels, which will get 6.00-15 tires on them. I need to get the slicks mounted too.

Looks great- at first i didn't think i'd like the exposed hood hinge idead, but it came out great- did you make or buy them somewhere- i've been trying to figure out what i'm gonna do with my falcon and might have to copy your idea, if you dont mind, and if i promise not to show up to prom wearing the same outfit.-rick

I just made the hinges, from 1/8 x 2" steel strap. Welded two pieces together (to resemble a piece of angle iron) to make the part that bolts to the body, it just sits under the fender bolt. I welded the piece on the hood, it ties into the new round tube bracing that I used to replace the original inner structure. Original hood weight was around 50 lbs, now it's around 25 lbs.

In the extra long trunk. Might head up to Tucson with it tonight to test-n-tune, if I get all the wheel/tire stuff sorted out, and the weather isn't too bad. I need to try driving it to the strip with all the crap in the trunk, and see if I can make it work.

I went to the strip friday evening, but the racing was cancelled. So, I headed into town, visited my mom, met up with a friend, etc. Drove home thru a serious thunderstorm..about 70 miles of wet. Car ran fine, handled OK, although I'm not used to skinny bias ply tires, short wheelbase, and high profile. I kept a firm hand on the steering wheel at all times. Pic of it loaded up with slicks, tools, parts, jack, etc. Rear sags just a little, but the tires won't rub anything.

When I was driving around Tucson it was around 100 out, and there's traffic, so the engine got a bit warm. A little over 230. Not boiling, but warm enough to make me want to put a shroud on the fan. So that was today's project.

there's one video already, but I need to get another with the new tires on it. I might head up again Saturday and see what happens.

  19. You've obviously nailed the setup Jim. Watching your video inside the car you moved the steering wheel less in that 10 second quarter than I have to pulling away from a stop sign in my Caddy. Excellent execution in an incredibly short amount of time. Ever consider doing one of those "build a car in 30 minutes" TV episodes?

The engine seems remarkably stable, in the 1-2-3 shift sequence.
Great to get a sense of how well it turned out! Thanks!

Thanks! I was really surprised watching the video, how straight the car went. I was pretty worried about it, I never built a 10 second drag car before, and this one is kind of wild.

That run was on radials...we'll see what happens with the old fashioned tires. My guess is it'll get squirrely

Great car for sure. When you run DW are you going to run the drag radials or as you say the old fashion tires? I under stand it's a 60"s build but why not go fast as you can. I hope you make the whole week have fun and be safe.
