Technical "Loud" turn signal flashers, who makes them?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 59IMPALER, Jul 13, 2014.

  1. As a kid in the 60's, I remember all of those cars having fairly loud turn signal flashers with a distinct, metallic "dinka dinka dinka" sound to them. I want that flasher for my 12V '53 Chevy. Aside from a parts car, does anyone make a repop ?

Wagner and other bulb suppliers all cataloged extra loud flashers at one time, try a good parts store.

I have found that as I've gotten older and lost hearing, nobody makes a "loud" flasher anymore. In fact, no one makes an audible flasher anymore. :)

  4. Sure they do Tridon makes a HD turn signal flasher which is available at most auto parts stores,,it has a electromagnet incorporated in it that makes the old familiar ticking sound.

It is a clear plastic flasher. HRP

Auto Zone part # EL 12

Try www.turnalarm.com I've had one in my car for 3 or 4 years with no problems. I can hear it fine in my roadster and I am hard of hearing.

I got a beeper from Radio Shack and wired it in to my flasher circuit. Was so loud I muffled it with some foam and tape. Very inexpensive just a couple bucks.

I think how you mount it will have an effect on how loud one would be.

  10. I can live with the clicking..the beeping would drive me nuts! HRP

My local autozone price on the EL 12 flasher 12 bucks

Rock auto-like posted above $5.70. $2 bucks shipping.

Yeah I didn't care for the beep either, when I ordered the audible flasher from chev's of the 40's it didn't state it was a beep.
But it is loud. If you don't mind the beep it works great.

I caught what you meant. I have a severe hearing loss and must wear pair of powerful hearing aids. Without them I hear very little, and with them do not catch everything.

I seem to recall JC Whitney selling musical flashers a while back. Anyone ever had one?

I guess all of us old guys have the same problem. Even though I wear two hearing aids I wired a indicator light in my dash board, for each directional. When the directional light is on it flashes with it.

I looked and looked for the old 'chimes' flasher, like some Ford LTDs had, ('70s?)
'ding dong' sound, not annoying...but if you were driving around drunk, and took it for the doorbell, you might open the...Naw, forget that!

I found a 12 volt one at Radio Shack...haven't installed it yet. (my F100, NOT the roadster or tub!)

I tried a beeper from Radio Shack, but it was too voltage-sensitive (I guess) as it only made noise when the engine was revving some, not at idle or just off-idle.

I know this has pretty much been solved but here are a few others:
Bussmann by Eaton #577 Thermal Extra Loud
    Daeco #552 Thermal Loud

I am a huge fan of the loud signal I have a spare just in case.

Try an auto electric specialty shop, or a truck ("big rig") dealer's parts counter. Some of those things were loud.

I came up with a couple of little 12 volt buzzer and wired then into the turn signals on my roadster. I don't have any trouble hearing them over the wind noise.

I tried a couple of the flashers recommended in this thread.
so far the #557 is the loudest of the original type sound.
but the beeper is still louder than the rest.(many don't like the beep)

The OP wanted the old style "dinka, dinka"

the EL-12 is a 2 prong flasher, an EL-13 is the 3 prong
EL-13 has a quicker flash rate.

    so far I like #557

Autozone lists a loud flasher LF-12 that they claim is 5 times louder than their EL-12.

Iam with Salt flats. Flashers used to be in a metal case mounted on a metal clip to the undersides of a metal dash.
