It's easy to get so wrapped up with the "iconic" aspects of a custom that we forget how to enjoy them. This shoebox driver definitely has his priorities straight and he's enjoying his machine to the max.

That is the best handling shoebox I have ever seen. Notice how flat it corners.

If I was driving a stolen car I would obey every stop sign, every speed limit, every rule of the road. I would even carefully check before I started off that all the lights are working correctly, tires inflated, plates properly screwed on. You can get pulled over for a blown license plate bulb you know.

So yeah, drive it like you stole it is a good motto at any time.

The manager at my work showed me this video a few weeks ago, I dont know how true it is, but someone had told him that this was used to for graphic imaging for the first Cars movie for the scene where Doc does a rip around the dirt track.

Thats a bullshit story your boss heard. That video has been shot at last month and when was the first Cars movie released?
Friend of mine is a previous owner of that shoebox and the frame is from a newer car(it came from Malibu,if i remember right),so i think thats why the handling is better than its usually in shoeboxes.

It's funny how much learning to drive you can do when you have access to an old gravel pit. My friends and I aged 13-15 learned to be drift kings before we ever heard of drifting doing this same type of driving in my 55 ford more door 272. Like this round and round we went because we were too young to have drivers licenses for the street.

The MVD inspector I was driving with during my license test had me pull over and I thought OH crap I guess I failed my test. He looked at me and laughed and asked "OK kid how much bootleg driving have you been doing?" Needless to say I passed my test. :p

On the gas for sure. I'm not going to say it 'handled great' but I will say that he knew exactly what it was going to do and consistency will beat raw speed any day. From watching the video you can tell he drives it hard. A lot. And that is most definitely a good thing. Cool vid.

  25. I have trouble just keeping light road dust off my shoebox ! But I was impressed !
