Projects My 36 ford project. Or how to ruin a perfectly good car

Been working on the top panel last few days and perfecting the body lines. Slow progress but still progress. Now time to fill them holes up.

Looks better and better. A real benchmark car build for changing closed car bodies into roadsters.

 

Spent a few houses on Friday making that filler panel. Today I will be cutting it out and redoing it. I love doing things more than once. I need to get the body whole this week so my buddy can do the finish work on it. He's much better at making stuff pretty. I need to get on my 29 roadster pickup so I can get it sold.

I love it when a roadster or coupe is made from a sedan. You are showing some real skill with this build. Great work!

 

In reality making the panels is the easy part. A shaved monkey could do it. It's the welding and metal finish that really makes it shine. I pretty much suck at that part.
Making a new panel today. Also did a little rework on the lower edge. Much happier.

If anyone has the idea of doing a conversation like this. (Suggest you don't ) I see brigrat has a rear section for sale made by carbuilder. I would suggest buying it. Looks to be very hi quality.

Damn that's a sweet ride!
No doubt the Pheaton is bad ass but the sedan body style is one of my favs.

 

I really like what you doing, keep up the great work!

 

Really coming together nicely with no rules to follow except maybe good taste and eye appeal! At the risk of you already knowing this I will post this anyway for others. If you look on the engine side, lower left & right of the Firewall you will see that Ford added an extra mount/brace on all open '36 cars. This and having the front sheet metal bolted together with the Radiator support rods help keep the Cowl somewhat stationary when trying to establish and keep "A" & "B" door gap's. Even though my wannabee Roadster, like yours, have steel door jams I bought a pair of NOS "B" pillar lower brackets and will be figuring out how to mount to the steel instead of stock wood. It would be nice to have a few sets cast up if there is any interest and someone qualified to do the casting.
What are your plans for the top if any, convert?, Carson style?

 

It's inspiring to me that many of us refuse to color between the lines!

I'm going to make a Carson top for it. Mostly because I don't like the way they look with the top folded down. It also makes the interior cluttered. I made the back package area role into the interior and I will add a revel on the back lip to match the doors. Similar to rick dores red one. The top will look like a fold down though. I like more of a hotrod look

I don't think the lower mounts are needed. My last car was a coupster as well. I boxed the frame it didn't flex at all. The cowl mounts in 2 places and to the fenders. Pretty stout as is. The b pillar I'm going to build a lower loop from one side to the other and shear panel. Should be quite strong.

Still needs a ton of metal finish and the drip rail made other than that it's a complete car.
