  1. ...and as a reader pointed out, it looks like it could maybe be a Skyliner glasstop. Note the trim apparently visible around the edge of the roof.

  2. Nice! Yes, sure does look top notch. Seems familiar but I can't place it. Any magazine stories?

  3. Bill, no magazine coverage that I know of. Btw.... Love your work and, didn't mean to high jack your thread!

Very likley my next project. No hemi (sigh) but a serious high RPM 396 might be waiting in the corner of the shop by the time I find a hulk to start with

It's the Hill and Hill car. My Neighbor bought that car from them" Dick Ferry" and named it "Littlemans Furry" .

It was amazing all the different types of cars that was used for the gasser classen. The paint jobs and lettering were unbeliveable. Also there were large numbers in the gasser classes. There wasn't a lot of money spent building them. Great job on this post. I am all gassed up and ready to go. More pictures please.

1963 NHRA NATIONALS D/GAS Class Final.

It started out like this but ended up a little differently...Yes, I know the '55 pretty well!!

Those were the good old days. The day started out with between 40-50 cars in the class. Long day and lots of fun. Unfortunately you can't win 'em all!

I wanted to show you guys something that I found today. The current owners have just put it back on the road with some changes obviously.

    The Overland Express

I about fell over when i walked up to the shop at a small rural junkyard and found this jeep.

I know of a 38 chevy with a 392 hemi in it. He bought the engine in the mid 70's from a guy that owned a gasser called the overland express. I thought it was just legend I truly didn't think this car existed. I don't think the 392 thats in the 38 however is the engine that was run in the jeep. I think it was an extra engine the owner of the jeep had.

  23. The Willys station wagon must have been a handful as a gasser. The stock version at 60 mph was terrifying.

What a trip down memory lane that was for me.
Many of the famous old Willy's drag racing cars are owned today by Ron Norman out of IL.

I think he has one of the old Stones Woods & Cooke cars along with K.S. Pittmans 33 Willy's car.
The Bee Line Automotive 41 Willy's that won the I believe 1961 or 62 Indy Nationals and he also has a few of Jack Merkel's old Willy's in his collection of cars.

Nice guy and he really loves those cars.

  28. Time for another forgotten gasser piece soon. That was too much fun.
