Customs Are For Hoodlums

Early Customs Rule

I’ve written in detail about my perceived importance of Cole Foster’s ’36 Ford as well as what I feel is a much overlooked era in custom car styling. In a world full of 50’s and 60’s era customs (which I still love), it was just so refreshing to see someone spend due diligence on an early car in an early style. Cole pulled it off perfectly with his now famous tail dragger.

Even better? It looks as though Cole just might have started a resurgence of sorts. As it turns out, the ’38 cabriolet I asked about yesterday is owned by a good pal of Cole’s and the two of them worked together in order to transition the car from street rod to early custom. They aren’t quite finished yet, but I will openly admit that I’m in absolute love with their progress. You can see plenty of shots on this thread.

Just as interesting as the photos on the thread were Cole’s comments. No awards were won, no legends were won over, but plenty of heads were turned… These customs are bad guys god damnit, just as they should be.
