The Hellfire Ignition Coil

The Hellfire Ignition Coil

Last year I put a pretty rare Eddie Meyer intake on my coupe. It’s a special speed part not only because of its rarity, but also because of the way I got it. It and the Canadian heads were left to me by Doc after he passed. Sentimental.

Thing is, ever since the install, I’ve been chasing icing issues. It’s been a mess—lots of head-scratching, trial and error, and more than a few totally inappropriate parts thrown into the mix just trying to chase down the problem. But I think I’ve finally got it licked. Now I’m undoing the bandaids.

One of the first things that had to go was the generic Mallory coil. That pot-metal chrome job looked like hell sitting up front next to those beautiful heads. So I scuffed it up and hit it with my go-to—SEM Ultra Trim Black. Then I fired up the XTool P2S laser and gave it a little attitude adjustment.

Here’s the process:

Not bad, right? Pretty rad for a coil that was on the chopping block anyway. Next up: that modern radiator overflow tank. After that… well, truth is, I’ll probably ditch the coil eventually too.

I’m on the hunt for a Harman Collins magneto. If you’ve got one—or know someone who does—holler at me.
