How A Differential Works
Remember those “101” articles that used to run in Hot Rod Magazine? They covered the very basics of mechanical things. A youngster could learn how to read spark plugs, how a carburetor works, the principles behind suspension geometry, or an endless number of other simple ideas behind the fundamentals of hot rodding just by reading the monthly “101” article. They were great for a guy like me that didn’t know shit about mechanical things, but wanted to learn.
This morning, I stumbled upon a video that reminded me of those articles. The first part of the video shows the theory by way of motorcycles riding in unison. Once that point is made, the footage really begins to shine with a practical example using cogs and pegs and… Well, it just rules. Check it out:
