Trevor’s “Keeper Coupe”

Trevor’s “Keeper Coupe”

A couple days after Christmas, I got a text from my friend Trevor. There were five photos and one simple message: “Look what I just bought.” The shots showed a chopped, full-fendered Model A with piecrust slicks on the front, a candy-striped rollbar, and a smiling madman peering out from inside. There was no engine, transmission, radiator shell or rear wheels, but I immediately saw the bigger picture. Trevor had unearthed a real-deal mid-to-late-’50s drag car.

“WHAT. NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell me everything!!!” I replied. Soon thereafter, we were on the phone talking details. Long story short, the car was going to get sold or scrapped, and Trevor’s friend gave him a call about it. He scored it for an unbelievably low price and is now the caretaker.

Trevor is one of those friends who always has a handful of interesting projects in the works. Luckily for us, he’s documented them here on the H.A.M.B. His thread on the “Keeper Coupe” is turning into one of my all-time favorites, and it seems to get better and better with each passing day. This week, he dug up the original injected flathead, unfilled Deuce grille shell, and a custom throttle pedal cast in the ’60s by the coupe’s builder, Sid.

Finds like this happen once in a lifetime. I’m so glad Trevor was the one who got this car. He may very well be the youngest person I know with a survivor hot rod. I can’t wait to see what he does with it.
