A Mild Custom, Lost in London
September 21st, 2024: Wasn’t exactly sure where I was, but truth be told, I didn’t really care; It was all too fun exploring & strolling through this sleepy suburb of West London. Turn out the town was Brentford, where the River Brent and the mighty River Thames come together. I was supposed to be meeting a friend with a car shop there, but he was running late, which allowed for this time to wander down Brentford’s narrow roads and walking paths laced along the edges of her riverfront, where old house boats were piled up in various states of condition. Turning yet another corner, I spied a 1930s fastback car shape with familiar teardrop taillights. Could it be? What in the world was a lowered, decked and skirted US-spec ’38 Ford DeLuxe Fordor Sedan in all it’s patina glory doing parked in front of a traditional British Pub? The Washington Blue paint was faded perfectly, ’47 California license plates mounted, and sporting a slight ‘tail-dragger’ stance; it’s hard to name a better getaway car for a six pack of bar hopper blokes than this one. It just goes to show you… Cool American cars (and their owners with good taste) have found a home just about everywhere around the globe. Cheers!
