A Traditional Banger Build
Some of my all-time favorite hot rod builds were resurrected from old restorations done back in the ’80s and ’90s. For starters, the builder is saving precious steel, preserving a piece of history that’s already been through hell and back. But just as important, they’re starting from the same place as the legends of our golden era. There’s nothing more traditional than taking an old, neglected Ford and fr0m that, birthing a real hot rod.
It seems “Reffiesj” over on the HAMB shares that same twisted passion. For years, he scoured the earth for an early banger-powered roadster to use as the foundation for a 1930s/40s highboy. In May of 2023, he finally hit paydirt—found the perfect candidate, tore it down to its bones, and started piecing it back together with an unmistakable need for speed and power.
Now, the old roadster is damn near complete, and it’s as clean as his meticulous shop. I’m head over heels for this car and its setting—I could damn near eat the thing, it’s so perfect. And while I wouldn’t know “Reffiesj” if I tripped over him, I can tell from the way this whole project has unfolded that he’s the kind of guy I could share a beer with and never give a damn about his politics.
That’s saying something fellas…
In any case, do yourself a favor and check out his build thread. You’ll be glad ya did.
