Hot Rods in Hawaii

The hot rod culture is amazingly rich in Hawaii. More than a couple of Hot Rod Magazine cover cars from the late 50’s and into the early 60’s were based out of the island state and drag racing has long been a tradition here. Even the smallest (and my favorite) island, Kauai, has a busy 1/4 mile drag strip.

And it’s no wonder… Every island in the state has had a strong military presence since the 40’s and our boys have been known to have mechanical past times. I always keep my eyes peeled when rolling around the islands. You just never know what you’ll find.

The attached image is a great example. A 40’s era Plymouth tour car complete with shaded passenger area sitting along side some incredible WWII artifacts.

Cool. Paradise. See more here.
