Even the most uneducated 50s custom car fans have at least heard of the Barris Brothers, Gene Winfield, Ed Roth, maybe even Dean Jeffries. But the immensely talented yet lesser-known Bill Cushenbery actually did the metalwork on the Batmobile, as well as creating the El Matador, the Gypsy, the Astro, and the Silhouette… A legendary custom that became part of popular culture as an AMT model kit and one of the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ Hot Wheels cars.
