LP of the Week: The Big Sounds of the Drags!

LP of the Week: The Big Sounds of the Drags!

Hard to believe that drag racing was once so popular that a recording giant like Capitol Records pressed albums about it, but in 1963 that’s exactly what they did. Capitol actually had a whole series of ‘Big Sounds’ records including Drag Boats, Sports Cars and Go Karts, but the Drags album was the rock star, selling over 100,000 copies. Who woulda thunk that many gearheads would want to hear engines revving and track announcements, but the sales were strong enough to inspire a volume 2 released in 1964. Here’s a link to the album below, and I know a few HAMBrs offer this record up for sale from time to time, if you want your own copy.

Enjoy!
