Pontiacs in Action!

If you’re a 1959-62 era Pontiac fan like I am, then this old movie, or should I say ‘series of movies’, is for you! Shot in and around Daytona Beach, we’ve got a little NASCAR beach racing, Daytona Speedway (when the track was brand spankin’ new), and good ol’ Florida drag racing.

Description says: “We ran across some home movies marked ‘Hudson Drag Races, Daytona Speedway 1958 to 1962’. They show a racing enthusiast with Pontiacs from those years (a convertibles and a station wagon) on the drag strip and racing on Daytona Beach, Florida. Some early dragsters with some serious engines! There is also some NASCAR racing at Daytona Speedway . Not sure what Florida drag strips are shown, but one strip has cars lined up along the strip with not much more than an asphalt track.”

The one dragster that really caught my eye is right after Art Arfon’s Green Monster. Take a look below at 3:31 – 3:39 and somebody tell me what that mill is out of: Looks to be a flat 12 aircraft engine, but cant really identify it.
