Barris Kustoms is Closing Up Shop…

Maybe you figured Barris Kustoms closed up after George died in 2015, but in fact the 10,000 sq. foot ‘Barris Kustom City’ facility on Riverside Drive in North Hollywood was alive and kicking until very recently. This is the shop that George and Shirley moved into in 1961, well after after Sam had moved back to Roseville, but when Barris Kustoms was still riding high as one of the greatest custom car shops of the 50s. This is the shop where celebrities would come to hobnob and get their daily drivers personalized by Barris. By the mid 60s, the shop transitioned into focusing more heavily on the TV and movie car-building business with iconic cars like the Batmobile, the Muster Koach, Dragula, and George slowly became more of a ‘showman’ than a ‘builder’ per se. Still, it’s quite a legacy, and sad that after 60 years in this famous location, the Barris’ Kustom with a ‘K’ may slowly fade away…
