The Ford Skyliner: One Worth Bringing Back

The Ford Skyliner: One Worth Bringing Back

When I was a kid, my best friend’s family stored a 1959 Ford Galaxie 500 Skyliner retractable hardtop in their barn. In my young mind, that Skyliner was the coolest, most futuristic and exciting car I had ever laid eyes on. A metal hard top that folded and stored in the trunk? Come on! Sure, it had BB holes in the windshield, missing trim and nearly 30 years of barn dust and mouse turds… Who knows if that baby would ever run again? But some dilapidated cars are worth bringing back to life regardless of their condition, usually because of financial (or sentimental) value. As complex and expensive as they are to fix up, the 1957-59 Ford Skyliner is still one of those cars. If you found a ‘Liner in the same condition as this guy’s car, would you fix it, flip it, or forget it? Personally, I’d get it running and driving reliably, patch up the big holes, shave some trim off, lower it way down, and just drive for a while.
