Hot Rod Garages By Peter Vincent

Hot Rod Garages By Peter Vincent

I’ve mentioned this before, but one of the coolest parts of my job is that I get a ton of free books. It seems like anytime Motorbooks releases something in our genre, they are gracious enough to send it over. Depending on how the book impacts me, I either it review it or not… and stick it up on the shelf with the rest of my books. The latest book they sent over was “Hot Rod Garages” by Peter Vincent. To be honest, this one barely made the cut.

If you know anything about Peter Vincent, you will know without ever seeing the book that the photography is gorgeous. He’s one of the very best hot rod photographers on the planet. The photos in this book just add credence to that argument – they are fantastic. Peter has a really interesting view point of seemingly everything and does a wonderful job of including personality and humans in his photos.

Really, my only gripe about the book is content. It’s stuff we’ve seen before – Brizio, Foster, Moal, Tardel, Rolling Bones, etc… With the exception of a few chapters featuring lesser named builders, the book focuses mostly on stuff that at least I have already seen a time or two. I know… I know… It’s hard to stay fresh when in reality the “Hot Rod World” is a very small one, but I can think of a builder or two that would shine under exposure.

Conclusion? If you are a book collector, you will probably need to add this one to the shelf. Frankly, Vincent’s photography work is just too hard to pass up. However, if you get books mostly for the content and educational value, pass this one by.

Amazon has it for about $26.
