Ever feel like a Car is Following You?

Ever feel like a Car is Following You?

Ryan’s sad tale of Dave’s Perfection closing reminded me of visiting the garage on a warm Austin night with Ryan and El Jefe a good 5 or 6 years ago. Over in the corner of the shop was a derelict ’56 or ’57 white Corvette that immediately caught my attention. For those of you who have read my stories for a while might know that my dad had a Polo white ’56 when he dated my mom, and I’ve always pondered owning one someday. But it wasn’t like the Vette at Dave’s shop was the only ’56 or ’57 that has somehow found me over the years. There was the white ’57 at Ray Evernham’s North Carolina shop in the same unrestored shape that I fell in love with, but it too slipped away. I know these early C1 Covettes have terrible steering wheel positions, drive like a truck, and cost way too much money, but they keep finding me in dark shop corners, crying out from their cobwebs for me to get one running again, patina and all… Well, they always say that ‘third time is the charm’, so we’ll see if the little Corvette follows me to another shop corner in the future.
