A Dizzy Climb to the Top…

A Dizzy Climb to the Top…

Let’s get this out of the way- Getting to the top of Pike’s Peak at breakneck speed is simply no joke, and it can end in disaster. At best, it could be crashing your car, and at worst… Well, it could be dying, which is not an uncommon occurrence this particular event. Last weekend was the 98th Annual hill climb, which was held sans spectators this year, but the show did go on. I thought it would be nice to share a few films from the simpler times of the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, when open wheeled racers slid and skid their way up a crude dirt road to the top. Even with the slower cars of those days, a racer still had a good chance of getting injured or killed more often than not, mainly due to no safety equipment, no course preparation, and no guard rails!
