Stumbling over Gems: El Mirage 1948 in COLOR!

We all know how rare it is to find early postwar hot rod event captured in clear, color photography. Maybe the Don Cox photos come to mind, but not many others were at dry lake events taking Kodachrome images in the late 40s to early 50s era. That’s why I’m a bit dumbfounded and completely stoked to stumbled over these amazing pictures, uploaded to the SCTA webpage back in 2016. There isn’t much information to go off of except this description of the folder: “Fantastic Photos taken at a 1948 SCTA Meet. Photos Courtesy of Jill Durkee-Burgoyne Dedicated to her father Warren Durkee 20 Jan 1917 – 12 Oct 2000. Special Thanks to Jim Miller for the Captions”.

Honestly guy, these pictures are rare and special hot rodding gems that just don’t come up every day. Please enjoy!
