Salt Flat Heroes: A (Virtual) Concours Class

Salt Flat Heroes: A (Virtual) Concours Class

We’re all rolling with the punches during this pandemic, as many of the vehicular events we love are being cancelled, including drag races and car shows. In their place have sprung up a number of virtual events online, including cars & coffee gatherings and even high end automobile concours. One of the best of these happening at the moment is Concours Virtual, which rolls out an exciting new class each week (17 in total), with something for everyone from the cars of Hollywood Legends to air-cooled German ‘Outlaw’ cars. By the time you read this, the contenders for a group that I am judging will be going live: Class N: Salt Flat Heroes- Early Bonneville Racers. The Class page says, “It’s the outright Land Speed Record holders that grab the headlines but we also want the hot rods and specials that defined the Bonneville and dry lakes scene. The class is cut-off at 1964, when the last of the wheel-driven outright Land Speed Records was broken. Judged on Bonneville provenance and condition.” I can tell you, there are some very special cars in the class that I am excited to help judge. If you get a moment to head over there, take a look at the wide variety of entries and pick a favorite of your own. And the best part besides the cars? The entire event is raising some serious money for charity.
