Featured Classifieds: 1939 Ford Sedan

I’ve long felt that the best daily driving old car platform was the 1939/40 Ford. They ride, stop, and handle better than anything Ford had ever produced at the time… and would produce until 1957 or so. They are light, compact, and if you opt for the sedan – very, very practical. In fact, the 1939 Ford sedan that I owned is the best daily driving old car I’ve ever owned.

Anyway, because of my love for them I always keep an eye on the market. Back in November, this car was listed.

In my mind, this is a perfect example for a daily driver. It’s nice enough that you have nothing to be ashamed of, but not so damned nice that you have to worry about anxiety attacks while having a drink at the bar. And mechanically, it looks to be just about perfect for the mission as well. Simple and fresh flathead, stance is done, brakes work, etc… And while most people would beg for a t-5 swap for daily duties, I drove mine well over 50,000 miles with the top loader and never had an issue.

Of course, the catch here is the price. This one is listed at $28,500. Two or three years ago, I would have considered that about right… But these days? To be honest, I just don’t know. The early Ford market was getting soft before Covid-19 and you gotta think the bottom is getting ready to drop off entirely. So… Like I said… I just don’t know.

This thing is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay for it.
