Jimmy Stewart’s first feature ‘Speed’ (1936!)

There’s been a few posts about this movie over the years, mainly from folks that caught it late at night on Turner Movie Classics. ‘Speed’ was a medium-budget film from MGM and it’s hard to believe this is Jimmy Stewart’s first major motion picture, but you can already tell he’s got acting chops. I’ve actually found the whole film online, but it’s not very high quality.  At least you can make out the great cars in it, especially ‘The Falcon’, which shows up at the Muroc dry lakes to try a land speed record attempt in the last 10 minutes of the film. It’s obviously just a movie car, but the sheetmetal is reminiscent of Malcolm Campbell’s Bluebird. I won’t give away too much, but lot’s of cheesy dialogue and ‘movie moments’ to keep you chuckling.

Editor’s Note: This is a pretty rare find… Jay found it on a Russian media site and I didn’t feel comfortable embedding it or linking to it. So, I sort of hacked in, downloaded it, and then re-uploaded it to my own YouTube channel. I have no idea how long this video will stay up… So watch it as soon as ya can!
