The Dick Shea Custom Corvette

The Dick Shea Custom Corvette

Here’s another benefit of having some idle time while sheltering in place: Going through old stuff! I was moving boxes in the garage and came across a stash of my father’s ‘Corvette News’ magazines from ’63 and ’64. Dad passed away in 2012, and I’m really glad I hung onto these, as I discovered he wrote extensive notes about ongoing modifications to his beautiful 1956 Vette I wrote about some years ago inside the cover of each issue as it arrived. I also stumbled upon a great article on a custom (really a completely hand-built) Corvette fastback coupe from Cleveland I had never seen before. Dick Shea’s name might be familiar from a ’49 Chevrolet convertible he built that was featured in ‘Custom Cars Trend Book No. 101’. Turns out he later bought a ’57 Corvette and customized that as well before deciding to just built his own 409-powered creation from the ground up. Read the article and I think you’ll be impressed with what this guy pulled off. Personally, I’m shocked that I have never seen this car anywhere before and even more perplexed on where it might be today…
