The Jim Hinds Roadster

The Jim Hinds Roadster

How does a Hot Rod magazine cover car from the 1950s stay under the radar so long? I was flipping through my March 1957 issue (exactly 63 years old!), and came across the super clean ’29 A Roadster of Jim Hinds in Los Angeles (Jim gives the majority of built credit to previous owner Red Barnes). We know from the detailed cover shot that it was painted red with lots of chrome. Additionally, it’s got a few outstanding and unique details that would be easy to miss if you just casually glanced at the pictures- Filled cowl, chrome knee action ’50/50′ shocks, shaved deck lid with rounded corners, smoothed rear wheel wells, trunk-mounted oil filter, dual fuel tanks, and lots of home-built metalwork for the steering arm, rear nerf bar, etc. This sweet hot rod must have won serious show trophies at some point. Jim Hinds passed away back in 2008, but I’ve reached out to his son for more pictures, so stay tuned for that…
