Racing Roadsters – Drag Racing in 1952

If you don’t have any of the Fawcett ‘little books’ on Hot Rods, go hit up eBay right after you finish reading this, cause they are all gems. Thumbing through the 1952 edition of ‘Best Hot Rods’ was an article about the racing season for that year. There were a few pages on El Mirage and Bonneville, but a very large section on Drag Racing. Why? Well, dry lake racing was only happening in Southern California, and you gotta go to Utah for Speed Week, but drag racing was popping up anywhere an old airstrip or frontage road could be found all around the country. If you take the time to read the article, it’s also clear that the rules and regulations varied location to location. The early 50s had a loose network and very little sanctioning for hot rod racing, but Wally Parks, the SCTA and the Drag Safari spent the rest of the decade improving that tremendously. Just figured I would share this look back in preparation for the HAMB Drags ahead…
