Gunning the Hot Rods at El Mirage…

El Mirage was just rained out for the second meet in a row… So, to cheer everyone up, how about a quick article featuring the early post-war days of racing at the iconic dry lake bed? How early you say? The fastest hot rods when this story was printed were only approaching 150 mph, according to an SCTA ‘club secretary’ by the name of Wally Parks. Its also odd to see the cars actually starting from 3 side-by-side lanes with street traffic lights used for staging and only a 1.5 mile long course. Anyone wanna take a guess at the year this was written?
