2018 El Mirage… Shot in Super 8mm

There is a strange beauty to shooting with real film that just can’t quite be captured the same way digitally. It’s a whole nother thing to shoot motion pictures with an amateur hand-held film camera. Sure you’ve the grain, the neat colors, and the softer feel, but you also have to contend with manual focus, a fixed aperture and constant motion blur with the slightest movement- It takes a little getting use to. But the movie’s analog nature is also endearing and honest. Dare I say a bit romantic? Take a look at this short film shot at El Mirage last summer on a Super 8mm camera. Ask yourself if you would like this clip any more if the guy shot it on his iPhone? Maybe it’s the same reason why we prefer Flatheads and Quickchange rear ends, even when there are more modern and ‘practical’ parts available.
