The Phantom Of Rebel Road
The thing about b-movies of the 1950’s and 60’s is that they were just as cheesy then as they are now. They were dumbed down for mass consumption, quickly produced, and essentially the equal to what a typical YouTube video is these days.
A few days back, the guy behind “The Phantom of Rebel Road” sent me a link to the film and asked me to feature it. After watching it, I passed on the idea… But the more I thought about it, the more I began to understand what Charles Wall was going for here. It’s a modern day b-movie.
Obviously, there are missed details here. Any hot rodder will spot them straight away and blush in embarrassment… But these are the same kind of details that were missed in Hot Rod Girl, Hot Rod Rumble, Drag Strip Riot, etc… They set the level of expectation in a weird sort of way and the rest just becomes gravy.
