A Life In 1948…

A Life In 1948…

So one of my best pals was recently moving his mom out of his childhood home and stumbled upon a few 8mm rolls of film while doing so. Intrigued, he sent the film off to be developed and converted to a digital format. What he saw when he got it all back astounded him, and then me… and now you.

Essentially, this is just family footage of my buddy’s dad who studied to be a doctor at the University of Indiana. Most of it is from 1948 – the year my buddy’s dad worked as a medic at the Indianapolis 500. And that’s where the relevance lies here – I mean, it’s hard to beat never seen before footage of the Bob Estes Mercury Special.

And I was going to edit this footage down to just the Indy stuff, but the more I watched and the more I payed attention to the details, the more I began to think it would be a crime against humanity to throw anything within on the cutting room floor. Take fifteen minutes of your life and watch a life from 1948 – you’ll be glad ya did.
