Drag Racing in Color – 1958

Drag Racing in Color – 1958

I love sharing old home movies of hot rods in action from the 1950s, because it’s probably our most accurate look back at how the cars were built from all angles. Its even nicer when the footage is high quality and nicer still when it’s been shot in color. Today we have a number of beautiful 8mm silent films shot an Southern California drag strips between 1958 – 1960, mainly at Lions, Bakersfield and Riverside. The images of FEDs, Diggers, Stockers and Sidewinders running free down the strip reminds you of how cool and straightforward the racing used to be: No big sponsors or flashy gimmicks, and just run what you brung! Props to J Naki for taking the time to upload these treasures plus many more, no matter how short some are in length. Hope you enjoy a look back to a golden age of drag racing over sixty year ago…
