Hot Rod Cord

Hot Rod Cord

In January of 1948, the SCTA Road Runners held a picnic at Santa Anita Park. Walt Rose showed up in this ’27 T roadster powered by a blown ’37 Cord V-8. Of course Cords were front-wheel drive, so Walt had to the run the motor backwards to get the power to the rear wheels. Add that oddity to the fact that Cord motors feature exhaust runners on the top of the motor (similar to Cad) and you have one interesting little roadster. I even enjoy the cut down doors, flat boat screen, and what appears to be a GM frame under the Ford body.

I’m sure Walt heard a snicker or two as he pulled into the park, but it’s hard to laugh at 200 horsepower in such a light car… Especially in 1948.
