Indy… 1957

My old man introduced me to hot rods at a very young age. In fact, my first exposure to cars built with a purpose was the 1980 Indianapolis 500. I was around four years old at the time, but I can still remember the sounds, the sites, and the people as if it were yesterday. It sounds cliche, but Gasoline Alley changed my life forever.

I think that’s how my dad planned it… And just to make sure he got his point across, he continued to take me on his May pilgrimage to Indy for the next 15 years in a row.

I think that’s why I’m so drawn to the anonymous video seen above. It was shot in 1957, but you can go to Indy later this month, sit in the infield, watch the festivities and the green flag drop, and get the exact same feeling in your heart. Indy is one of the very few things we have in this world that is still timeless.
