’49 Merc Hardtop

’49 Merc Hardtop

So, I pretty much haven’t slept in two days. As a result, I’m in kind of a delirious haze of consciousness. I believe I’m now camped out in my living room enjoying the confines of my favorite recliner, but I could just as easily be propped up in my bed. Not sure which. Insomnia has ruined my ability to decipher my surroundings.

On the upside, I’ve had plenty of time to go through a number of old magazines that a new friend recently gifted me. In one obscure title, I found a shot of a hardtopped Merc lurking in the background of a feature shot. Excited, I began to research… I had no idea who built the car and no idea who owned it, but I went to Rikster’s site with the image burned in my head and began to search.

It took a few hours, but I finally found the car in the Valley Customs section. It turns out the boys at Valley Custom built the car for Glad Ellis and used a Cadillac deVille top as the basis for the modification. The result is a practical convertible with distinctive style.

I’m sure many of you have seen this car… Sort of surprisingly, I had not and as such figured it would make a decent post for today.
