Dirt Tracking in the Bay Area- Vintage Pics

You may remember my post about my buddy Ron’s collection of Miller, Offy and Novi patterns rescued from a foundry in Berkeley, Ca. After shooting those pictures in his garage, we went in his house where I proceeded to photograph many of his race program covers from Oakland. He then handed me a large binder of 1920s- 1950s midget, sprint, and roadster photos from the dirt tracks and speedways around the Northern California Bay Area to take home with me and scan. Most of the photos are from the famous Oakland Speedway and Oakland Stadium (5/8mile track), but a few are from San Jose Speedway as well. The majority of the pictures I pulled from this historic binder are the original, large format prints, often with driver info hand-written on the back, and have never been published anywhere else. I have enough images to make this a two part post (at least), so buckle up and get ready to get a little dirty…
