Automotive Patent Illustrations

Automotive Patent Illustrations

Hope this isn’t too off topic, but I found these automotive patent submissions historically interesting. Mainly from the 1920s – 1970s, these design patents were applied for with an accompanying series of simple technical illustrations that were hand drawn, as is still required to this day. It reminds me of the drafting class I took in high school, before the mouse and the monitor made everything happen a little quicker. I really like the two 1930s land speed racer body submissions by Sir Henry Segrave, an English automobile and motorboat racer who set three world land speed records. There’s also the 1951 International Harvester COE pick up truck concept and images of the Blue Flame rocket car that went 617 mph at Bonneville in 1970.

Many thanks to the cool illustration website vintagraph.com for the images…
