Thanks Rikster for the input, I hadn't seen a couple of them. Paul Bragg has the touch to build a kool kustom.

  2. I love, love, love the chop on Wolf's Merc (the last one Rik posted). One of these days I'm going to finally get around to recutting mine into a similar chop.

Be calm and RELAX. The OMAN mercury I believe is on the just on the otherside of this Merc. It is pronounced Omun. It is the last name of it`s original owner. It was chopped in the late 70`s or early 80`s by Ronnie Moore from Council Bluffs Iowa. He also chopped So Fine which was featured in Classic and Custom, Custom Rodder and appeared in the magazine Custom Cars put out by Hot Rod at least 4 times in one issue. It appeared in Mike Keys book about the same amount. Dave Bell had it in is Cartoon in Street Rodder as well as being on the cover of Custom Rodder in the early 80`s. As mentioned before, it won the King of Mercs in 79 At the Merc Duce Reunion and Friends. In 83, Dave Stucky`s chopped and sectioned Merc won the King Of Mercs.(It was held every 5 years. It is No 12 in Straykat Kustoms pic. Kelly Puckets 50 Ford, chopped and sectioned won the And Friends title that year. His Mercury builds are super nice, but I still like that Ford better. Plus, I like wide white walls. Thanks Dave for explaining why you picked the cars you did. It made sense.[/QUOTE]

Probably cant go 20, but top 3 I can do. I'm normally into the wilder, more going on Mercs. But there's always an exception, so this list may seem contradictory.
Current top 3 is Hirohata, which I wish my car was, and:

Dressed out 401 Buick, five speed, Corvette independent rear. Uses Merc frame with grafted Lemans front suspension and grafted rear section from Corvette.

Whitewalls too small for my liking but otherwise really nice car with very nice mild chop.

couple of more pics of Dick's mercury, knew I had them somewhere. Of course DJ's Louvers did the hood. He drove supermodifieds in the 60s, nailhead Buick powered, hence the nailhead in this car. 268054_247688775241676_125484520795436_1029820_2718219_n.jpg 291845_243434665693367_175108615859306_621952_620672146_n.jpg

Two that I didn't see mentioned are:

    Jesse James' 1951
It's really well done of course, and I think my favorite part is the super-subtle metalflake scallops.

And flamedabone's old Merc, because it's perfect.

  18. Only thing I never liked about Jesse's Merc was that horrid aluminum radiator shining behind the grill. This is one case where I would totally agree with Mick the grill is too plain given what is behind it.

  23. Don´t think I can do 20 but here´s a few I like and not in any particular order. Most of them is allready posted but one can never get tired looking at chopped Mercs. 50merc1.jpg Cbts-photo-6.jpg IMG_2017-vi.jpg Barry-Mazza-Clone-Mercury.jpg InkIron20092074BorisBadBob-vi.jpg Jerry-quesnels-1949-mercury12.jpg Wolk-Merc-1-of-40.jpg XP5270222_JPG-vi.jpg Firestone7_1015SamBarrisMerc02-vi.jpg

This one debuted at the 2016 CCR, not quite finished, it still needs a rear end lowering.

Pretty sure I can re-shuffle my not-chopped top 20 list to include these two cars.

And just for the record, I really like a properly chopped Merc, some of the examples here are incredible and really improve on the car overall. But there are also some butcher jobs out there that totally ruin the car. That said, I have yet to see a Merc that was ruined by not cutting the roof.

In my humble opinion most Mercury's out there are indeed ruined.People go way too wild on a car, which comes with an almost perfect design right from the factory.A good Custom is about flow and proportions.Making the lines even more appealing to the eye.The "right" chop-job turns these cars into rolling pieces of art.A car you can stare at forever and ever without getting enough of it.
