Steering wheel probably on same side as windshield wiper, if that helps.

Thanks for the help guys. I am building a 5 window & trying to research to get a game plan. I contacted Larry from a picture of this car that he posted in the wire wheel thread. I love the stance. I want the car to be drivable but as low as possible. I am new to building this style of car. I was able to purchase a nice Henry steel body from a family friend a few weeks ago. My mind has been racing ever since.

    Thanks

Hey Eric, how about some pics of what you have? I think the 5 window in the pic above is so cool.

Here is a quick pic of the car when I went to pic it up. I have all the fenders & running boards. It has 53 Merc Flathead. The engine has been rebuilt but sat for awhile. I have been able to get it running. It was really exciting to here it fire up. It started & sat there idling like a champ. It sound great. I should probably start a build thread.

To get the car that low you would need a flat front crossmember , probably a 5" axle a 40 rear cross completely flat and a c-notch that goes past the frame rail

Pleanty of other ways to do it like a kickup or z or spring behind axle but this is probably most straight forward

Going to need a driveshaft tunnel and pumpkin clearance tho , and that low may require couple more inch c-notch than shown in back

Welcome to the HAMB Eric, that blue Coupe does have a nice stance to it. I'm not a fan of the rear tires above the wheel wells, but that car sits well overall. Bob

Wow there are so many options. I am not sure what to do. I don't want to cut the body to pieces. No drive shaft tunnel or pumpkin clearance. I want to get it low. I know I want split wishbones on the front. Maybe 4" drop. I am planning on running 18" wire wheels. The car has an 8 inch rear end. Can I do the 40 rear cross member with a mild c notch. I do not want it raked a ton. I know the look I want just not sure how to accomplish it. I have been looking at pics. If I find the right look I will post it. How low can I get it & keep the stock floor?

    Thanks
    Eric

Lowest would be realistically about 1.5-1.75 c notch , put a 40 cross about 2.5 inch down from top of the frame , stock 40 spring perches at 48" , 31" tire will be about an 1" below the fender reveal , still going to need a blister for pumpkin clearance in the floor...

Do you think I am on the right track with a 4" drop on the front? Maybe a little lower with the cross member

Good luck with the build. You have a great car to start with and a greater example to draw from.

    My crossmember was
Broken in my roadster stock frame so I took that opportunity to flatten it out to. The bottom of the stock radiator that's about 2" ...

    image.jpg

My roadster has no c- notch but needs it ..., modified stock front cross / de-arch spring, stock front axle and stock rear cross with de-arched spring .... Technically your not going to get much lower than 2" more in front ( my stock axle is 2 1/2" drop) without serious mods ... My roadster stance is fairly simple and straight forward ....the extra 5" of the origional car you posted is not...

Stock 32 has a pretty deep drop front cross , lose a lot of suspension travel when lowering it ... Me personally ... I'd probably find a nice stock A front cross and trim it to fit in the 32 frame

Thanks for the roadster pics. That's very helpful. I believe my car has a 42-48 axle & wishbones under it now. I can get a hold of a model A axel & wishbones from a friend if it helps. The floor is in great shape in this car. I would rather not cut it. I also don't want it to become a 10 year project. Would love to keep it simple for now.

How about a pic of the axle? 42-48 bones have an s bend in them by the yolk , you can still use them if you like the appearance , model a bones are a little short , but I have used them, The A axle would be good candidate for dropping , wont work with 32-36 bones however unless perches are cut down to 2"

Does your frame still have the k and stock mostly? , I might suggest to put a torq tube back in and unsplit front bone... That keeps it super simple!
