White firewall, appropriate for early 60's build, or not?

I sat the 283 in the roadster temporarily after fitting the body, and the light grey 2K primer made me think that painting the firewall white would look OK. Early 60's is the look I'm going for, would have been done then? ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1490469720.034043.jpg

That air cleaner is going away, I have a dual quad intake for it, before anybody tells me how awful it is...

  4. I used the Chrysler Vanilla as the two tone color around the windows on the Ranch Wagon,it has a little more of a cream look than Wimbledon white. HRP

I think the color came out with the Magnum wagon, one of the very few new cars I wouldn't mind owning. Bob

Be my luck if I painted my firewall white, I'd have the biggest gusher of an oil leak right afterward and never get it clean again!

  18. white would be awesome!
when i do the firewall on my 31 buick it will be the white i used on this '65 jeep. it is called "glacier white" and has a green/gray hue to it. goes well with black or red. the shade makes the other colors around it "blend" for some reason. maybe an artist could explain?

at the right you can see the difference between the bright white snow and on the left how it looks with red.

  19. Contrasting firewalls on prewar cars is so good! Inappropriate for a lot of later cars IMO. Someone ( 3WL?) posted a long time ago that he cut the white paint with like, two drops of black. Cut the glare and made it pretty.
The '57 is white on the firewall only because body color was used on GM firewalls then. Not the era of this thread, though.

  24. I honestly think the lighter colored firewall makes the engine stand out, this is my pal Dave's confused pickup just after the firewall was painted. HRP

Not my cup of tea. Don't remember white firewalls being popular back in the day. I believe its a newer phenomena. BTW, who cares what color firewall your car has. If you like it white, paint it white.

  28. Gary,I think it gained in popularity with the '60 show car scene, there were not too many pre war cars in my area that were street driven and I only remember one 40 ford with no hood and a white firewall. HRP
