Hot Rods Where can a guy find these wing screws that were used on the Stone Woods Cook deck lid

It's hard to tell from the picture if they are screws or fasteners.

The ones on the car look about twice as big as the ones in your catalog page

Almost look like the old valvecover wing bolts/nuts, cut down a bit length wise.

But those are a two piece deal unless they threaded the tops too. Or maybe the just used the top part and some threaded rod.

There are lots of ways they could have used these. It is also possible that there are other versions that look similar, like maybe an air cleaner wing nut. One thing that I noticed is that the wings are not all lined up so they could have pinned the wings to the rod. I saw a buddy do that after a couple of the wings popped off and got lost while driving. Once you pin them , then it is just a long 1/4" shouldered bolt. They could have even cut off the 1/4" part and threaded the outside of the shaft.

They sure look like valve cover wing bolts, maybe the nut part is attached to the lip of the trunk? I tried finding it but couldn't, but I was fairly sure TRJ did a stone woods and cook story that had some much more detailed pictures of that car

Offy # 3509 is 5/16-24 thread, [HASHTAG]#3510[/HASHTAG] is 3/8-24, [HASHTAG]#5195[/HASHTAG] was 1/4-20, might be hard to find. Not really an SWC car in the strictest sense, that car was chassis builder Chuck Finders. I think SWC used to kind of lease their name out? There were a few cars racing with the SWC name on the doors that weren't actually campaigned by them. They did similar deals with Bones Balough and Steve Korney as well.

  16. I have no idea what they used, reminds me of the facet handles in grade school.

When there's a desire for neat or focal point hardware, ya gotta look further than the bolt isle, or the hardware store.
Most music shops carry some really neat wing nuts for drum kits.

Google images, wing nuts and there's a few very exceptional pieces in amongst all the hardware store stuff.

I think I'm going to try the Cal Custom bolts first. Are you selling these?

I had some like these years ago that were 1 piece. Maybe Cal Customs? ...not sure.

another place to try, McMaster-Carr has wing head screws, not sure how big the head is on them.

The one thing that I am still trying to figure out is how does the screw hold the trunk lid down without scratching the paint?

Why do you think it doesn't scratch the paint? :)

    .

  26. I believe those wing nuts were made by Eelco back in the early 60's. They offered a variety of sizes and lengths. I ran some on my header caps for a while. I bet if you keep checking Ebay for Eelco wing nuts you will find some.

I don't know, in the picture in the first post in the thread, they look more like drum keys than Eelco wing bolts. But it's hard to tell, with such a small picture, from so long ago.

There was a girl here called 'no-hole' because she was so skinny that if she had a hole, her legs would have fallen off.

make your own, cut the hex head off a bolt and weld a bit of rod on , bend it how you like, add chrome, job done.

  30. Not the car in question but does show some in use.
